Pears are especially delicious in the fall and early winter when they are at the height of their season. Pears can be substituted for peaches in the summer
2 pears sliced in half with core removed
4 second spritz vegetable oil cooking spray
1 tablespoon sugar
2 oz dark chocolate
1/4 cup boiling water
4 teaspoons chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place pear halves in a large bowl and toss with vegetable oil and sugar.
Lay pears cut side down on a baking tray and bake until tender, about 20-40 minutes depending on variety of pear.
While pears are baking place chocolate in a double boiler over medium heat or in a microwave oven and heat until just melted. Slowly whisk in the boiling water, continue whisking until smooth.
Remove pears from oven. The pears can be served hot, at room temperature or cold. Immediately before serving top each pear half with 1/4 of the warm chocolate sauce and 1 teaspoon of the walnuts.
