As the temperature heats up, you may be looking for low-calorie ways to cool down. Forget ice cream, and instead, opt for a diet-friendly frozen treat like a shaved ice, popsicle or granita. In fact, you could make your own—it's easy and it will save you some cash.

In the summer, I like to make homemade popsicles out of fruit purees, smoothies made with skim milk, yogurt, soymilk (try the recipe below!), or watered-down juices. A favorite of mine right now is an odd sounding but delicious cucumber popsicle that consists of pureed cucumber flavored with lime juice and sweetened with agave nectar. In a blender, I puree cucumber and add lime and agave to taste.
